Auckland Catholic Nun accused of breaking 9 year olds arm at Sunday School

I was under the impression Sunday School was a time to indoctrinate children with fanciful tales even the kids know are fairy-stories. 

Not a place where a child would be (allegedly) assaulted. 

Enter, stage left, yesterday’s case from Auckland Court. 

The court heard how Sister Leva was helping with a Sunday School class at St Patrick's Catholic church in Panmure in April of this year when the incident happened. 

Apparently the children were practicing an action song to celebrate the 40th anniversary of a church leader when Sister Leva became pissed-off at a 9-year-old girl for doing the actions wrong. 

The state prosecution alleges "She (Sister Leva) then went up to her and flicked her in the side of the head, causing her to feel dizzy,"  

"She then twisted her arm up behind her back and the girl heard a click in her shoulder and neck." 

The next day it was discovered the arm was fractured.  

Leva-i-Fangalupe Fono, known as Sister Leva was charged with assaulting a child and injuring with intent.  

Sister Leva wore a cross in court and has the support of her church.  

Let’s be honest here, the nun could have chopped-up the entire class, boiled them, eaten them and she’d still have the support of her church.  

That’s the way Catholicism works.   

New Zealand would be better off with more Asians and less Catholics

I am sorry on reflection I can’t think of any Catholics I know that didn’t vote National?

Catholics are by nature inherently cloistered and conservative.

Conservative political parties learn not to upset their demographic, that’s why they never do anything significant whilst in power.  

New Zealand still borrows $250 million a week to stay afloat under National, the same as Labour.  

It is little surprise therefore to read in Saturdays Press the private Christchurch Catholic boys school St Bedes has five old boys on Nationals front-bench.

National has always been the party of choice for Papists

If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t go to the garden-shop at Easter, same-sex marriage legislation is moving at snails-pace you now know why.

One thing Catholics don’t believe in is a true sectarian society, one where all peoples get along together.

They would like to model every N.Z School like St Bedes – as long as they were all Catholic.    

Historically the moment the first Catholics arrived in New Zealand they went to great lengths to separate themselves from the mainstream.

Cripes on the West Coast of the South Island Catholics even set-up their own cemeteries.

Catholics in New Zealand have largely never wanted their kids mixing with other children.

They don’t even want them to play sport in the same teams as other faiths, or lack of them.

That’s why they set-up their own sporting club, Marist, so they can remain an aloof grouping.   

They don’t want to marry outsiders and when a heathen coupling is on the cards they will do their dandiest to convert the auslander.   

The grand irony in all of this is people in New Zealand openly criticise Asians as failing to integrate, wanting to retain their own culture.

Those bloody Chinese don’t even play rugby!

Christchurch Catholics need to ask their boss for the $$$’s

Local Catholics, frankly about the only ones who care, are bemoaning the cost of re-building their basilica damaged in the Feb 2011 earthquake. 

The cost to re-build is in the hundreds of millions they claim they don’t have.  

My first fundraising suggestion for the oh-so-poor local Catholic parish is to give Father John Fitzmaurice a few hundred grand more and send him down to the track to double it.     

In case you haven’t noticed the Cantabrian public are way more interested in preserving the symbol of our city than a tacky symbol of Rome.  

Rather than moan like billyoo go have a word to this bloke about the money-side of the equation.

He’s the one who parks his arse on a throne of gold.   

Probably got a good angle on Austrian lakes and Nazi loot as well. 

Southlands Anti-Abortionists Worship a God that simply loves Fetus-Fanticide

Down in Invercargill, the mostly Catholic, protesters have been doing what anti-abortionists around the world do best - threatening and intimidating woman entering Southlands clinic.  

Being ‘good Catholics’ and listing papal lacky MP Bill English as a supporter, 'Southlanders for Life' are not just harassing those women wanting terminations but also ironically those there for fertility treatment.   

Amongst their callous targets in their ‘name and shame policy’ are staff and those attending the clinic plus their relatives for good measure.   

Threats include this email sent anonymously to the Abortion Law Reform Association back in October…. 

“People who work at the clinic are legitimate targets and so are you. You’ll be hearing from me again, that is if your computer, or in fact your premises, are in one piece,” 

These fucktards can’t see the grand irony being supposed ‘pro-life’ on one hand yet advocating ‘killing in the name’ and engaging in violence on the other.

Catholic Church harbours Serial Pedophile Priest in Canterbury’s midst!

Moloney abused over a hundred boys, many of them ‘special needs’ entrusted to his care, whilst he headed The St John of God residential-school, located in Oakland (Christchurch)

These are the known, reported victims of Father Moloney – doubtless the real-list of those who suffered at his hands would be much greater – the varying handicaps of the victims impinging further investigation.

Yet, despite being found guilty of mass-abuse , The Catholic Church paying over 5.0 N.Z Million dollars in compensation to his victims – Moloney still claims he is innocent and all the boys made-up the decades of assorted physical & sexual deviancy.

Father Maloney, is an unrepentant mass-pedophile with no parallel in Canterbury’s history who preyed on the most vulnerable of the vulnerable - yet perplexingly is considered by The Parole Board to now be ‘safe’ enough to be released back into the Christchurch community after serving less that one-third of his sentence?

The weak system of justice here in New Zealand having meant Father Moloney served less than four days prison-time for every one of his known victims.

And to rub salt into the wounds of these victims, many of which still carry the mental scars - where was it that the scum-bag Father Rodger William Moloney was recently paroled to?

Back to the care of St John of God - that’s where!

That’s right, as bloody unbelievable as sounds, the very group & place Moloney perpetrated all his numerous crimes was deemed to be the safest place for the community at large.

Clearly to anyone who looks at this case, St John of God was unable to stop or detect his abuse over numerous years when he last served in the Order, yet in a stunning decision The N.Z Parole Board now thinks this is the perfect place for his rehabilitation.

To further spit-in-the-face of restorative-justice the New Zealand public demands, once Moloney has finished his 12 months of parole at St John of God in Christchurch the order plans to whisk him-off to Australia’s Gold Coast where he can see out his days – still as a priest!

Group founded by Deviant Priest alive and well in New Zealand!

Father Marcial Marciel (1928-2008) is a Mexican priest who founded of the Catholic Orders ‘Legionaries of Christ’ and ‘Regnum Christi’ (think Opus Dei)

Marciel was also a sexual deviate with a taste for young boys & pre-pubescent girls, embezzled money, fathered at least six children - some of which he began fucking, abused drugs and had serious mental-issues – the perfect CV for one in such a pious and lofty position within The Catholic Church.

Most if not all of Marciels activities the current Pope, in his old capacity, knew was happening & did what we now know he normally did at the time....nothing substantive!

Championed by Pope Paul II (cuddly photo of both above)after founding the Legion of Christ in Mexico in 1941, Marciel built a vast network of schools, colleges, seminaries and lucrative real estate holdings. At its peak the Legion had an annual budget of US$650 million, more than 650 priests and 60,000 members all around the planet – a large number of which knew their leader intimately it appears.

His network extended to New Zealand and his ‘good work’ is carried on by Catholics in New Zealand to this day.

At one-stage Dunedin, apostolates from Regnum Christi even ran their own radio program to relay Marciel's ‘good-word’ to the peoples of Otago. Which parts of his doctrine these devotees espoused during this air-time is open to conjecture.

New Zealanders also flew to Rome which houses the H.Q of the Legion of Christ to seek Marciels personal instruction - even knelling in his presence and kissing his ring - both subservient acts many of those who had a private audience with him over the years, got to do (in a Biblical sense of the terms)

Empowered with their trip to Rome & taking a leaf-out-of their illustrious founders book (no doubt the pages would be stuck together & have a centre-fold) Regnum Christi members started a nationwide campaign amongst The Catholic Community of New Zealand for fathers and sons to bond together. These man/boy bonding sessions involve weekends away (I assure you, even I couldn’t make this sort of stuff-up!) and are rather appropriately, if not ironically marketed as ‘Conquest Events.’ (I promise you I’m not making this up!)

Indeed instructing children appears to be a major part of Regnum Christi’s modus-operandi in New Zealand. Their publicity trumpets ‘week long-summer camps for youth’, first communion programs for youngsters and some-thing they call ‘Priest Appreciation Evenings’. One boggles what-goes-on at one of these ‘appreciation’ evenings run by a group that falls under the banner of a lay-movement and is mandated by a lying, reprobate who liked nothing better than playing ‘hide the sausage’ with any kids he could get his grubby hands-on.

Obviously the credibility of The Regnum Christi and Legionaries of Christ sects in New Zealand is in tatters - permanently tainted with their founder’s sordid, ribald legacy.

It doesn’t take my jibes to tell them their days are over – their credibility is on par with a white-power skinhead group.

Immediate closure is their only credible option.

The Dominion Post states “The Catholic Church has lost its moral authority.”

“Put bluntly, the church is an organisation that harbours child abusers, covers up child abuse and facilitates child abuse by transferring pedophiles to dioceses in which their offending is not known.”

“Until it puts its own house in order by reporting all cases of sexual abuse, historic and present, to temporal authorities and co-operating fully with investigations, its leaders are in no position to lecture anyone about abortion, contraception, sex outside marriage, spybases or anything else.”

Yes, indeed today’s editorial (excerpts above) in The Dominion Post certainty calls it like it is.

Here we have a mainstream New Zealand newspaper attacking the institution called The Catholic Church, suggesting it no longer has any credibility ‘preaching’ to society on a range of moral issues – when it is clear to the public the Church has operated at times in a deliberate amoral fashion.

Contrast this frank report in The Dom.Post with the sycophantic press-release from Bishop Patrick Dunn (Catholic Bishop of Auckland) that appeared in The New Zealand Herald on the same day.

Dunn indicates the media has wrongly targeted Benedict and he finds these reports “astonishing.” and goes on to-use that tied-old line “it was only a small number of priests.”

Dunn exhibits exactly the traits and arrogance that plague The Catholic Church.

In-fact the root-cause of its current, irrevocable demise.

Essentially Dunn believes in the centuries-old doctrine of papal infallibility – everything is hunky-dory & the church can do no wrong.

Mix this mind-set with a liberal dose of paranoia that The New York Times and Das Spiegel have somehow invented the stories about Ratzingers involvement in two cover-ups – including presumably the falsification of court documents, public records and the sworn testimony of dozens, if not hundreds of witness’s.

Dunn’s article is an insult to ones intelligence, born of ignorance of the truth - he refuses to see.

New Zealand’s Christian Taliban demand their version of Christmas can be the only one!

Christmas is the one time of the year where you would anticipate all of Christianities variants would unite to celebrate the birth of their messiah – bury the hatchet.

But there has been few Christian good-tidings for St Michaels Anglican Church in Auckland over the festive season.

Recently they placed this risqué poster outside their church to simulate debate amongst all peoples about the story of Christ’s birth , including non-believers, or as Archdeacon Glynn Cardy put-it “We actually think God is about the power of love as shown in Jesus, which is something quite different than a literal man up in the sky,"

The archdeacon says the plan behind the billboard was to lampoon the literal interpretation of the Christmas conception story – and frankly they did a good job and get my congratulations on a great marketing job – it’s a winner.

However whilst atheists may have gotten a giggle out of this novel approach to ‘bring Christ back into Christmas’ – not so the fundamentalists in the Christian ranks.

And it doesn’t get any more fundamentalist in New Zealand than Family First and The Catholic Church.

Their followers and ilk have been stirred into action and in the ultimate act of Christian charity first vandalized and then ripped the poster down.

St Michaels office phone has forced to go straight to a message centre after be lambasted with abusive calls and threats.

The Police are now involved.

Like any good fundamentalists the Christian Taliban see themselves as ‘the true believers’ and ‘holders of the truth’ and will break the law, threaten and abuse those that stand in their way – even if their targets are the largest Christian denomination in New Zealand.

To interpret The Bible any other way than their own – is to quote several threats emailed to the church ‘blasphemy’.

Sex Education for 10 Year-Olds is a Good-Thing

It is irrefutable, children are maturing younger than ever.

Coupled with this, today’s children often have access to the internet, social networking-sites, cell-phones etc exposing them to subject-matter & concepts, which were once the preserve of adults only.

Whilst it is fair to say ‘one size does not fit all’, it is also necessary to educate younger and younger children ‘the facts of life’.

The Sexuality Road, is a new resource for teachers of late-primary and intermediate-age children, being launched by Family Planning in New Zealand.

Part of the resource is not just the ‘birds and bees’, but also other relevancies, like protecting yourself from cyber deviates, as opposed to the traditional ones with boiled-lollies.

Teaching Kiwi 10 year olds about sex, has drawn condemnation from the predictable quarters.

Family First and The Catholic Church.

The national-spokesperson for Family First, Bob McCoskrie, is one of only a small minority of New Zealanders, ignorant enough to believe the third planet from the sun is 6,000 years old.

Why the fuck news-agencies would give him and his small group of Biblical literal-translators, any coverage what-so-ever is beyond me?

What credibility does a group which wants the rest of society to believe in unicorns, giants, six-day creation of the planet, 900 year old men etc, when it comes to educating children in the year 2009?

Now to the arch-revisionists, The Catholic Church, and their stand on sex-education.

Has no-one pointed-out the age-of-consent in The Vatican City is just 12 years-old? Therefore to start-with The New Zealand Catholic Church, would be better directing its moral outrage towards head-office in Rome rather than N.Z’s Family Planning Service.

Family Planning, have never attempted to legitimise 12 year-olds having sex – The Pope has! Kids screwing kids is going-on under The Vaticans own roof!

Reading between the lines, perhaps there is another underlying reason, why The Catholic clergy would be up-set New Zealand children are maturing so quickly, and getting ‘boundaries’ established?

Curse those secular liberals for teaching Catholic children, sucking Father Patrick’s willy, isn’t normal behaviour.

Far better Catholic children are kept ignorant, for as long as possible, and in awe of the superstitious clap-trap, than coming to grips with modern-society & all its foibles.

Faced with a changing-world and social environment, both these ‘flat-earth’ groups show just how ignorant they are as to the realities of growing-up today.

Christchurch Author details abuse at hands of Catholic Church

Ann Thompson’s crime, in the eyes of her abusers, was she was born ‘a bastard’.

Her earliest childhood recollections were being told, her mother was evil, and she would end-up in hell, unless the devils inside her, could be beaten-out.

Thompson, arrived at Christchurch’s, Nazareth House in 1951, aged 10, and the abuse at the hands of the nuns started, just weeks after her arrival.

When she was aged 15, she suffered sexual abuse from a priest.

The horror of her childhood, is outlined, in a just published book ‘Say Sorry’.

The title is her plea to The Catholic Church to finally say “sorry” after all the years, of suffering.

She is hoping the sordid details outlined in the book, will spark some humanity from within The Catholic Church in New Zealand, towards not just her own plight, but hundreds of others New Zealanders, with similar tales.

Given what we have seen as a systemic worldwide policy to avoid responsibility – I’m not personally holding-out much chance Ann will receive the over-due “sorry” she should be accorded.

Avoiding culpability is of course something The Catholic Church are experts at.

These nuns & priests showed universal distain, for human dignity.

Christchurch Priest wants consecrated grounds made into havens for criminals.

Boy, this has been a dismal week for Catholic around the globe, and now we have an article from my local town, Christchurch, which adds to that sad legacy.

Tala Seleni, was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide this month, & was buried last week at The Linwood Cemetery.

As it turns-out, not only was Seleni senior, a rat-bag, but so is his son, Tasi, who is on the run from Police for a range of crimes, including kidnapping and stabbing.

Hardly surprisingly N.Z Police staked-out Tala Seleni’s funeral, in the hope his fugitive son would appear at the grave-side (they took the liberty to tell the family)

To you and me, the fact the Police saw the funeral as a prime-chance to collar a crim like Tasi Seleni, by placing undercover police in the crowd, was entirely the right one.

But not to Father John Rizzo, the Catholic Priest who conducted the funeral.

That’s him, taking mass in the photo above.

Taking one-step back, one can only presume from Fr Rizzo’s attendance, means murderers who kill themselves, go to heaven along with all the other ‘good’ souls, and Father Rizzo was merely issuing Tala, that ‘one way’ ticket all Catholics get of-right(?)

Father Rizzo, as it turns-out, has lodged a public complaint about The Police presence, at the funeral.

He told The Christchurch Press newspaper the Polices actions were “tactless”.

In Father Rizzo’s world, the cloistered one occupied by middle-aged virginal men, a Church or a Cemetery in this case - are deemed “sacred ground” & even Police must pay umbrage to this.

Father Rizzo would like to see civil-laws, stop at the boundaries of consecrated Church grounds, making them, in effect, safe-havens for criminals.

Using his own logic, one has to think, Rizzo is perfectly happy sharing his Sunday communion with embezzlers, rapists, car thieves etc, who are taking a well-deserved break from being ‘on the run’? The Police would get to wait in the church car-park.

This just goes and shows us, yet again, how embarrassingly ‘out of touch’ Catholic priests are to secular life.

Another lesson The Catholic Church will take anyone – murderers – no problem!

Footnote: The online version of The Christchurch Press is running a poll (Tues 19th May) asking it's readers, if it was o.k for the Police to stake-out a funeral. When I submitted my affirmative vote, the results were an overwhelming 87% of people, had said 'Yes' as well. Just, another indictment, how out-of-touch, priests are, to the folk they administer, and New Zealand society in general.

Bishops put Science before God.

It appears the local Catholic Church is running scared of Swine-Flu.

Strange I thought it was just that Jews that avoided pigs?

From this Sunday, New Zealand’s Catholic Bishops are stopping parishioners receiving communion wafers on the tongue, communion wine from the chalice, and from shaking hands at the sign of peace at masses in New Zealand.

Doesn’t anyone in The Catholic Church of Aotearoa, follow the teachings of The Holy Bible anymore?

The Bible is very specific.

Diseases like this are a condition of sin or demonic possession, fixable by ordering the person to be well, forgiving sin, casting-out demons, and among other methods - the creative use of spit.

What a sad-day it is for religion in this country, when bastions of Christianity like this, turn their backs on Gods-word, to follow that secular hocus-pocus called modern medicine.

The Bishops that approved this rejection of Gods-word & still lucid enough to know what day-of-the-week it is - should be de-frocked.

It’s a disgrace!

Popes Pilgrims still on the run.

In July of last year, some of the 200 Indian pilgrims bound for Catholic Youth Day in Sydney, took the opportunity of a stop-over in Auckland to ‘do a runner’.

In total 33 of these Catholic pilgrims took their chances and absconded.

14 of them are still missing, nine odd months on.

At the time, New Zealand Catholic Church spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer told Radio New Zealand, the mass defection was “shocking” and “there was no reason to believe the missing pilgrims were not genuine”.

Freer may now wish to now change her initial statement, given it is obvious New Zealand Immigration have been taken for a ride by her representatives & the countries tax-payers continue to pay for their lack of vetting, and gross abdication of responsibility for their sponsored charges time, whilst stopping in New Zealand.

This was a large escorted trip, sponsored by N.Z Catholic Church, using local billets – but when the ‘shit hit the fan’ the Church didn’t want a bar of the massive cost trying to find such a large group of absconders.

Imagine the screams of indignation we would have heard if the so-called pilgrims had their applications for temporary visas refused in the first place?

Those cries would have been lead by Freer personally.

All the Kiwi tax-payer got was 'shocked indignation' at the time, and now a deafening silence from the very organistation, entrusted to care for them in the first place!

Not one ounce of moral responsibility to ‘pick-up-the-pieces’.

But hey, what else do you expect?

N.Z Catholics: A flock that can’t baa without permission

For centuries the Catholic Church has continued to stymie medical research, and the progress of science - in the name of dogma.

Galileo’s show-trial and the threat of imprisonment for ‘so-called’ heresy, the burning of Gregor Mendel’s papers are just two examples, that immediately come to mind.

Stem-Cell treatment can be added to a long list of breakthroughs with the potential to save lives & produce better quality of life for billions – yet, the people in power in The Catholic Church are doing everything in their power, to ban its progress.

Whether you like to accept or not, The Catholic Church continually tries to prevent the most basic of human rights.

That’s the right for couples/individuals to choose contraception – especially in countries, where over-population has resulted in misery and death & use of condoms would also reduce AIDS infection.

So where does the average ‘run of the mill’ N.Z Catholic, stand on these issues?

I would suggest, most adult Catholics in New Zealand practice some form of artificial contraception, in defiance of Church edicts.

Catholics in New Zealand, can see the benefits of stem-cell research, prevention of genetic abnormalities in newborn, and in-vitro-fertilisation etc.

Some believe in cloning animals, some don’t.

All of these contrary views Catholics are happy to espouse over a jug of beer or in their living-rooms , but never directly to the local parish.

Needless to say many Catholic couples have taken advantage of IVF etc (then, rather ironically, christened their kids Catholic!)

Faced with a battle against say Cancer, Catholics readily employ medical cures that fall outside the bounds of their religion, yet play ‘deaf and dumb’ when the local Bishop calls for them to be banned.

They are willing and seemingly happy, to be sheep, and lead around the pasture.

Can’t they see by not speaking-up, and remaining the ‘silent majority’ – they are in fact giving tacit approval for the stand the Catholic Church takes on a whole range of issues?

So when is that ‘silent majority’ going to have the gut’s to speak-up and say “that’s wrong” and fight for what they believe as individuals is right, and of benefit to their family, friends and the rest of mankind – rather than letting their Church run rough-shot over their own personal beliefs?

So Catholic reading this, why continue to let ‘the’ Church be your spokes-person on a range of issues – when you don’t personally believe in what they are saying?

If you feel, the reasons for you saying nothing are that “no one in ‘the’ Church would listen to what I had to say anyway” – then why the hell do you practice Catholicism in the first place?

Why not simply worship God in your own way, believe in what you think is right and throw-off the yoke of Papalism?

Does that learnt, blind obedience, steam from religious indoctrination you received as a child perhaps, and that of your parents before you?

Are we observing the age-old principals of Papal infallibility alive and well in New Zealand, manifesting themselves in ‘a flock that can’t baa without permission’?

Isn’t it high-time for ‘garden variety’ Catholics in New Zealand to speak-up and not be scared to do so?

Catholic Church Want Adult-Toy Billboard Banned.

Well boo-hoo, wop de f*ck, a Wellington billboard has upset the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, who want it down.

On the billboard advertisement for D.Vice designer sex gear, four parishioners are pictured in a church.

Three have their eyes closed, hands clasped, praying but the fourth, a woman, is smiling and below her is a tagline describing a sexual aid and its price.

The firm's marketing spokesman, Rene Bros, said the campaign showed people thinking about sex while doing everyday tasks such as ironing, going to the bank or attending church.

The underlying question to ponder first and foremost is: what business is a billboard of this nature, to a bunch of celibate old men?

Let us not forget, and stand-proud as a nation, basking in the knowledge New Zealand women are amongst the largest consumers of love-toys per head in the world.

Nice ‘garden-variety’ Catholic housewives form a significant part of that market, and keep Union Carbide’s shareholders happy as well.

Bishop Dew and crew need to remind themselves, the products of their ‘good Catholic education’, employ the likes of ‘chocolate body paint’ or ‘naughty bunny vibrating ring’ (pictured above) to enhance their sex lives, and nothing he says will change this.

Whilst the hierarchy of The Catholic Church, have long since given-up on what to do with their reproductive organs – the rest of us Kiwi’s haven’t.

To have some modern-day self-imposed eunuch, like Bishop John Dew, telling Kiwi’s the rights and wrongs of sex is the equivalent of a teetotaler arguing the relative qualities of single malts.

Doesn’t this bunch of old codgers with dog-collars, know every-time they utter platitudes of this nature, most New Zealanders laugh and ridicule them?

Isn’t it high time the Catholic Church employed a sharp media liaison officer, to vet what comes out into the media from Catholic Inc, to prevent mass (get the pun) amusement of the kind we have here?

On the D.Vice site I found, what initially I thought would be the perfect gift for Bishop Dew, to while-away those lonely nights, in his single bed.

But then after a more thorough inspection of the web-site, I rescinded that suggestion.

I later found something else I felt was more appropriate, for a man of his ilk (and no it isn’t a blow-up choir boy).

Meet Australasia’s Biggest Sex-Offender: Catholic Father Denis McAlinden

Hard to believe, this is the smiling face of ‘evil’.

Press reports from Australia, indicate Father McAlinden’s grooming tactics, began with the archetypal ‘bag of lollies and chocolates’ and progressed from there.

McAlinden then found opportunities to be alone with his young victims for extended periods and molested them in his car or while getting them to sit on his knees in empty churches.

When opportunity arose, he was not adverse using the privacy of the confessional booth – a perfect vehicle for a deviate of his nature.

N.Z Truth Magazine (26th March 2009) describes McAlinden as “addicted to preying on girls under the age of 12”.

One victim said he stopped his abuse when she began menstruating, around 12.

The truth of the matter is Father Denis McAlinden is likely to have been Australasia’s worst known sex-offender.

Despite the scale of longevity of his criminal activities, McAlinden died in Western Australia in complete anonymity, whilst on the run from Police, unpunished for his crimes.

The true number of his Australian and New Zealand victims, and extent of his crimes, will never be known, but offences must surely number in the hundreds if not thousands.

Over his five plus decades of abuse, victims and their families repeatedly reported his offending to Catholic Church authorities in New South Wales and Western Australia.

The in-house ‘punishment’(if one can term it that) meted-out to their brother in Christ was to shuffle him ‘back & forward’ from his home diocese in Newcastle, NSW to Western Australia, Papua Guinea and then to the East Coast of New Zealand, via Hamilton.

No one in the Catholic Church on either side of the Tasman bothered to warn parishioners he was a predator and a threat to any child in his care, nor to take the obvious course of action.

That was to, report him to the civil authorities.

It took till 2007, two years after McAlindens death, for the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic diocese to publicly apologise for their 50 year policy of inactivity & remaining silent in the face of the overwhelming evidence. And, that was only after victims ‘went public’ and their lawyers came knocking.

Such is the magnitude & length of his offending, investigations have subsequently shown McAlinden had a ‘tainted record’ dating back prior even to his arrival in Australia from Ireland in 1949.

The now deceased Catholic Bishop of Waikato, Edward Gaines, surely must have known McAlinden was ‘a bad apple’ when he was shoved into his care for six months in 1984. By that stage McAlinden has been in no less than 10 different dioceses, all of which he was forced to leave 'under a cloud'.

For the current Catholic Bishop of Waikato, Dennis Brown (N.Z Truth Magazine, 26th March 2009) to belatedly express his indignatious “horror” at McAindens offending is to completely ignore the ‘public record’ and more to the point, the files that the his church (now facing civil action from victims) keeps from public view.

The very files Bishop Brown and his cohorts (plus their Corporate lawyers, well versed in defending cases of this nature, by now) well know exist, and would reveal the complicit role successive Bishops both here and in Australia had in this sordid affair.

The time for expressing “horror” was when the first of these complaints of ‘inappropriate touching’ was issued - less than a year after his arrival in Australia.

In case Bishop Dennis Brown, needs reminding that first known complaint was in 1950, thirty-four years before his name-sake in a dog-collar arrived in New Zealand.

Bishop Brown wants to take a reality check.

Father Denis’s dubious record, dating back three plus decades and more, must have ‘swept before him’ before his arrival to Hamilton, and it’s therefore hard to consider Bishop Gaines any less complicit in this cover-up than the three Bishops (1949-1995)in Australia overseeing him.

Unequivocally, half-a-centuries of allegations of abuse by Father McAlinden, were systematically ‘buried’ and stymied by The Catholic Church in both Australia and New Zealand.

By default victims were created by The Catholic Church, and then ignored.

The preservation of The Churches name was paramount - little else.

This fertile ‘hunting’ ground was exploited mercilessly by a heartless pedophile of McAlinden’s nature.

Given what we know, it is little wonder, Catholic Father Denis McAlinden gained the dubious distinction as Australasia’s Biggest Sex Offender, and the Catholic Church in Australia (including N.Z claimants) now faces paying millions-out in compensation.

Knick-Nack, Paddy-Wack Give The Priest A Bone

This is not a unique story, it shares many similarities to other cases around the globe. It is therefore neither remarkable, nor is it just, a decade old Christchurch story.

This is the case of Father Paddy Thwaites, a case that polarised his congregation & exposed an endemic policy of neutrality and obstinence by his Church towards his victims.

Thwaites was found guilty in May 1999 on two charges of indecency with a young boy, but the jury was unable to agree on a verdict for two further charges relating to the boys brother and another boy.

A 2nd later trial was held in relation to the two other boys, and on the 28th October 1999, Christchurch District Court Judge Colin Docherty sentenced Thwaites (then aged 54) to 2 ½ years jail for sexually molesting all three boys, in the period 1980s through to 1990s. The three boys were aged 12 or 13 at the time of the abuse.

In his summing-up at the second trial Judge Docherty said “On each occasion you befriended them, made them feel special and gained their trust and confidence”.

Patrick Arthur Thomas Thwaites, Father Paddy as he liked to be called, was more than just a parish priest. He was credited with turning around lives, a ‘rugby, racing and beer’ man who was popular at the Marist Rugby Clubrooms & in all his parishes – firstly Timaru, than West Coast and lastly Riccarton.

Character evidence at the trial described him as ‘dynamic’.

Thwaites supporter, Dr Mick Goodwin dismissed the charges against his mentor as “preposterous, completely outrageous and inconceivable”.

Father Paddy himself declared his innocence to the charges, inside and out of court.

In the end his ‘not guilty’ plea was meet with deaf ears by the people who mattered most, the jury, who returned a unanimous guilty verdict at his second trial.

Court reports show one of his victims, was not motivated by vengeance, or necessarily to see Thwaites go to jail, he simply wanted to stop Thwaites preying on more boys under his care. He wanted the abuse to stop at him (and his brother) and had already taken his allegations to the Catholic Church two years prior.

These allegations were investigated by The N.Z Catholic Churches in-house Special Issues Committee, but ‘procedurally’ this committee were unable to progress his claims.

Under church policy in cases like this, an admission of guilt was required from the offending priest before action could be taken. So all Father Paddy had to say was “I didn’t do it”
& he was back indulging the freedoms of his position for another two years.

Thankfully that’s was until the civil authorities caught up with him and his predatory desires were curtailed.

To this day Thwaites claims he is innocent and he is currently enjoying his retirement courtesy of The Catholic Church.

At one stage, after his release Father Paddy returned to his old job ‘moonlighting’ as a funeral assistant at Lamb & Hayward Funeral Services.

He has never apologised to his victims.

Paddy remains a popular figure in church circles.

The Catholic Church, did offer professional help, confined to its ‘confused’ parishioners at St Teresa’s, reeling at the reality their favourite son was a convicted homosexual paedophile, but it was left to the N.Z tax-payer to treat the three real victims of his abuse.

Catholic Church spokesperson Lynsey Freer was quoted at the time saying “I think there is a great deal of confusion in people’s minds”.

Not enough confusion for the liking of one of the outraged Police Investigators involved with case, who took the radical step of withdrawing his children from St Teresa’s Primary School, upset at the way officials from the Church & School had ignored the hard evidence & continued to tacitly support Thwaites.

The veteran Police Investigator had interviewed all parties.

The Policeman had got to look into the eyes of Thwaites victims, hear first hand how he had enticed them with ‘props’ like the popular computer game ‘Leisure Suit Larry’.

This old man, he played three;

He knew who was telling the truth, as did a jury of the priest’s peers.

So why drag-up an unremarkable decade-old case like this?

What can we hope to achieve by ‘scrapping at this wound’?

Simple, it is necessary to highlight the ‘environment’ that allowed this paedophile priest to operate, has not changed in the ensuing ten years since these offenses occurred, and since the thousands of similar shocking stories of Priest abuse sprung into the public domain, worldwide.

We still have a Church (and sadly, some of its practitioners) that operate in almost permanent ‘denial mode’.

The interests of the victims are still placed a distant second to that of the perpetrator & well below the interests of protecting the churches ‘good name’.

In-house investigations of impropriety within The Catholic Church achieve little to nothing, at worst relocation or a backroom job.

Irrespective of the heinous nature of their crimes, a priest is never fully defrocked, and mandatorily accepted back into the fold.

Therefore expect more Father Paddy’s.

Popes Pilgrims do a runner!

The Popes new feature movie ’78 year Old Virgin’ was meet with rapturous applause at its initial screening.

Indian pilgrims bound for Catholic Youth Day in Sydney, have taken the opportunity of a stop-over in Auckland to ‘do a runner’.

The absconders from an escorted group of 220 were billeted in Auckland prior to traveling to Sydney, but almost as soon as the plane had touched town, a number high-tailed it and are now in hiding.

It’s become clear a number of this group were simply using Catholic Youth Day as a ruse to scam N.Z Immigration authorities into issuing temporary visa’s and it’s that very same Department that now has to spend tax-payers dollars tracking down the missing pilgrims.

One of the naive billets from St Thomas Moore Church in Auckland tried to persuade the public that this was not a mass immigration scam by claiming “I’m guessing they’ve taken a holiday in New Zealand, but I don’t think they’d give up the chance to meet the Pope”.

Clearly this individual was not at Auckland the airport to see the 39 missing seats on the connecting flight to Sydney, the equivalent of one in five from the original group.

Another host was more realistic as to the absconders motives. Kim Wannenburg told Newstalk ZB the two men she was billeting told her they were going to the local shops to buy her daughter a present. They never returned.

To rub salt into the proverbial wound, a spokesman for the N.Z Shikh Community who are now assisting authorities find the group, said the majority of the missing men were not even Catholic!

New Zealand Catholic Church spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer (pictured) told Radio New Zealand the mass defection was “shocking” and “there was no reason to believe the missing pilgrims were not genuine”.

As per usual this shock and indignation from Catholic Church authorities did not translate into dollars. It’s the standard ‘all care no responsibility’ policy and the cost for finding the group is now being picked-up by the muggin’s tax-payers.

What Freer and the N.Z Catholic Church have yet to answer is ‘why were large numbers of pilgrims of other faiths traveling with the group in the first place?’.

With a modicum of journalistic detective work is was easily established (via the local Indian community) that the pilgrims contained a large number were Shikhs, and it’s likely it will be within this community, that the missing men will ultimately be located.

As I’ve rallied before on this blog, New Zealand is now seen as a soft haven for economic refugees who use ‘religious persecution’ as a guise to gain access to residency. In this case a so called pilgrimage sponsored by The Catholic Church was sufficient for N.Z Immigration officials to ‘lower their guards’ and the result of their intransigence is all there to see.
