The Christian Concept of Hell is Nonsensical

You have just died and discovered, to your horror, that all those Christian stories of hell are true.

The Devil and his minions, all drunk and in black death-metal t-shirts, are there to greet-you.

Beelzebub looks at your mortal CV, concludes you are indeed in the right place.

Then welcomes you into the fold and allocates you a room with a view over-looking the active volcano.

So why the f*ck would The Devil now want to torture you?

He’s seen you have been a naughty-boy and ignored ‘the word of God’ and therefore surely he should be lining-up a big-titted whore and hard-liquor to celebrate, before you go off to see The Zappa concert.

But rather than congratulating you for being a staunch heathen – The Devil begins to punish you?

WTF?!

This is just not logical actions, oxymoronic, and no-one has ever explained to me why the ultimate evil-doer The Devil would want to punish mortals who follow his own path?

Well, I don't want to defend Christianity for sure. Hell is, as you say, absurd. But you seem to have a cartoon understanding of the teaching. Satan isn't said to be in charge of Hell at all. He doesn't meet the dead at the infernal gates and decide who goes or stays. Indeed, Hell was purportedly created as a place of punishment for him and his fallen angel followers. He will be in torment like the rest of the doomed.

Thanks for clarifying things Mike.

All occupants of hell form this never ending 24/7 daisy-chain, so whilst I’m shoving a red-hot poker up the backside of Pol Pot, Satan behind me, is doing the same thing etc etc.

We are all mates after-all.

Makes perfect sense.

Cheers.

Paul.

In the meantime, he gets to torment the human souls that end up there because he and his followers hate us with a passion that you can't even imagine while you are alive on earth. He hates us because God made us like Him, Imagio Dei, and because God loves us. Because God loves us, he wants to hurt God by leading to destruction every soul on earth, and then torturing every soul that ends up in Hell. It's not about us per sec, it's about hurting God.

Sorry, passion is the wrong word for how much the devil hates us. Ferocity is much closer.

Hi there Lucia, so if it’s about punishing ‘flesh and blood’ humans who are separated from god – who is it that is punishing Satan and his minions? Hell was invented in the first place for Satan and his followers so who is it that is administering the pain and suffering? The guards or the prisoners? Your god? Seems an awfully silly concept to me, when if the Devil hates us for simply just being human - good or bad.

Thanks for your comments.

You are right. The devil would have to be the servent of god to carry out the torture or it wouldn't make sense. What an absurdity.

Paul,

Any person who is destined to go to Hell and does not go there would suffer far more than if they just went to Hell. Hell is an extension of God's Mercy as well as an expression of His Justice.

Separation from God is what causes the suffering in the first place.

If a person who rejected God went to Heaven instead, that would be far worse for them. Not because of anything God is doing to them, it's because of the state of their soul. Their utter rejection of God, and therefore their inability to accept His love and forgiveness.

It's your choice where you end up.

I am trying to grasp the concept of hell – believe you me – but frankly it just doesn’t make sense when you break it down and examine what hell is about.

This loooooving God makes this overly sadistic place to separate the unbelievers from the believers – irrespective of their lives – but that’s another absurdity – then gets his main rival and his buddies to man the prison and administer punishment to what in effect are his mates.

Then who the hell (pun intended) punishes Satan and his main-men?

This is like being told you have a drinking problem and getting sent to the local pub for rehabilitation and in the pub the owner (who happens to be the biggest piss-head in the world) refuses to serve you.

It’s so mixed-up and contradictory to be laughable. Even a small child could see that it is not logical and shoot holes in its concept.

Cheers there.

Paul.

I would get the same sentence for not believing in 'god' but doing righteous things as a seriel killing child rapist. We would both burn in hell for eternity. The time doesn't fit the crime. The whole concept is absurd.

Lucia, which god am I separated from? Which one should I believe in? Allah, Yehobah, David Beckham? What is god forgiving me for exactly? It's not my fault he took his eye off the tree of knowledge.

I need you to kindly curb your language Phillip.

As an Everton supporter please never mention D*vid B*ckham’s name on my blog again or I will be forced to delete such vulgarity.

Cheers.

Am I allowed to mention Wayne Rooney?
