Catholic Church hosting Darwin Conference – 20% Discount on Dungeons for those who book early.

“Divine revelation is perfect and, therefore, it is not subject to continual and indefinite progress in order to correspond with the progress of human reason” [Pope Pius IX]

The Vatican is sponsoring a five day conference to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species.

I’ll repeat this.

The Vatican is sponsoring a five day conference to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species.

Dungeons are going quick, so book early.

And no, it doesn’t happen to be on, April 01st.

The subject of this conference is the compatibility of evolution and creation.

This is like Rothmans running a conference on the compatibility of cigarettes and endurance sport.

In their publicity blurb the Vatican aims to re-examine the work of scientific thinkers whose revolutionary ideas challenged religious belief: Galileo and Charles Darwin.

Let’s remind ourselves of way The Catholic Church has attempted to shackle scientific endeavour, and what better example, is one of the two great minds they’ve given.

Galileo Galilei.

Galileo, argued for the theory of Copernicus, that the earth is not immovable, but rotates around the sun. It was for teaching this that he was called to Rome in 1633, and tried for the crime of heresy. The aged Galileo, in his 70's, was taken down into the dungeons of the church and shown the instruments of torture that were going to be used on him if he did not recant. Fearing the torture, and fearing that he might share the fate of Giordano Bruno, whom the church burned at the stake a generation earlier for the same crime, Galileo recanted the truth. He was confined to his home under house arrest, neither allowed to leave or to receive visitors, for the last seven years of his life.

"The doctrine that the earth is neither the centre of the universe nor immovable, but moves even with a daily rotation, is absurd, and both psychologically and theologically false, and at the least an error of faith." [Formal Church declaration in its indictment of Galileo]

“To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." [Cardinal Bellarmine, during the trial of Galileo ]

“The Earth is firmly fixed; it shall not be moved." [Psalms 104:5 formed part of the Churches prosecution]

Galileo's work was banned by the Catholic Church for two centuries after the trial.

Showing The Catholic Church ‘can move with the times’ Galileo received a formal apology - in 1992!

Surely this one example (kindly provided to us by the good people in the corporate offices at The Catholic Church) is enough to show us science/evolution is a dangerous concept to the Abrahamic religions; and only compatible in the same way we know earthquakes are natural phenomenon, and not God rattling his toy (as depicted in the pages of The Bible)

The theory of evolution renders the need for a magical creator called God, to explain the evolution of life.

In a rear-ditch effort The Catholic Church knows religion is becoming less relevant to educated people, even in its home-town, so it’s grasping at theological straws by claiming ‘compatibility’.

What we see with this conference is The Catholic Church attempting to re-invent itself.

Twinking-out the bits on the inquisition etc, and trying to come-up with a Papal equivalent of intelligent design, by crudely attempting to combine science and superstition, and hoping the wider public will buy-it, whilst there’s still some followers left.

PS: Conscious of all the security regulations governing air-travel The Vatican is recommending conference attendees leave their own torture-racks at home, and opt to hire one from their extensive range.
